Domaine Wardy Bekaa Valley Red 2019
Description and tasting notes
Domaine Wardy Bekaa valley red is a pleasant red wine blended from Tempranillo (34%), Cabernet Sauvignon (33%) & Syrah (33%)
Notes: Tempranillo is Spain’s premier red grape, a very old variety that was introduced, it’s been claimed, to the Iberian Peninsula by the Phoenicians more than 3,000 years ago.
Such a claim was enough to compel us to experiment with Tempranillo for the first time in 2018.
We used it in a blend with Cinsault to produce a wonderfully bold Beqaa Valley Rosé; as an oaked single varietal (very promising) expected to be released next year, and here in an un-oaked blend with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
Replacing last year’s Cinsault with the Tempranillo brings something totally new to the table.
This Beqaa Valley Red is darker, more intense… Tempranillo’s characteristic savory notes come to the fore with powerful green cigar leaves coupled by dark and sour cherries, the Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah add hints of blackberry, black pepper and wonderful floral notes.
A generous wine with a long finish.
Label: An award-winning design by Tarek Atrissi, the color-coded main feature is inspired by vine tendrils and spells “Wardy” vertically in Arabic calligraphy.
