Mawj wine
One winemaker, two wine lovers, and a glass of wine on a sunny day by the sea. This is how the story of Mawj started.
MAWJ– the Arabic word for“wave”
– is a tribute to the beauty of the Mediterranean and its old-world endemic grape varieties.
Born from the passion to unearth and showcase the expression of bord-de-mer Levantine grape varieties, Mawj aims at producing Mediterranean wines with a new flair and a unique style.
OUR MOTTO: UN “VIN DE COPAINS”
Un vin de copains (a friends' wine) is never drunk alone, always shared so easily. There’s no particular occasion to drink it. It is casual and unpretentious, always meeting expectations and pleasing everyone, even connoisseurs.
Un vin de copain is an affordable wine that offers great value for money.
It’s the kind of wine perfect for any gathering, where enlightened amateurs, food enthusiasts, and seasoned palates come together.
Un vin de copains brings together the largest number of people and occasions. Their simplicity doesn’t make them any less appealing: a well- chosen vin de copains can reveal delightful surprises. These are usually young wines that don’t require long aging and are designed to be enjoyed “tout de suite”
.
In short, it is the perfect choice for spontaneous moments. No need for ceremony: open it, pour it, and enjoy it in good company.
A NATURAL FERMENTATION
In order to support the authentic expression of the terroirs we work with, our natural fermentation process strictly relies on:
* Wild yeast/ spontaneous fermentation
* Natural stabilization and no filtration of wine
* Zero additives during fermentation process
* Only small amount of sulfite added before bottling
* No use of oak barrels (inox tanks)
* Lees aging
* Layered fermentation and Skin maceration (25 to 35 days for reds,
one week for whites)
ORGANIC VINEYARD
Mawj’s grape varieties thrive in a warm and sunny organic vineyard at 400m of altitude facing the Mediterranean sea.
Located in Edde, Batroun, Lebanon, this 35-year old vineyard basks in a sunny Mediterranean climate known to be the most favorable for viticulture. The extended dry summers coupled with mild winters result in balanced wines with great acidity, structure and longevity. The proximity to the sea adds that beautiful freshness and saltiness that go hand-in- hand with exceptional nuanced aromatics and elegance
